My thoughts on the Valeton GP-5 guitar multi effects pedal

This is just based on limited testing and may change!

It actually doesn't need 9v power supply when using the M-vave MS-1 (for the old chocolate). Based on specs, GP-5 runs only on 5v 190mA and the MS-1 probably runs on barely nothing (but still needs power). Initially I tested this with a cheap power bank which probably has a low output. It works on a newer power bank I've tested (Belkin). I think it will run on 2A power. I've seen some quirks with running MS-1 on some power banks though, sometimes it will lose power after some time (probably because of the low power requirement). So far it seems to work okay on my belkin. Again note that this is just based on initial observation.

The unit is powered via USB when used as an audio interface on the cellphone. No need for 9v. If you have a guide track and also want to record the guide track, also connect to it via bluetooth audio so the guide track will play via bluetooth (or use a different phone for bluetooth audio). it will record both the guide track and your guitar. Usually the camera app will mute the bluetooth audio when you press record but on my phone I just press the volume up and it will play again.

Button activation is ON RELEASE (not immediate) when using the built in foot switch but it is ON PRESS (immediate) when using the m-vave chocolate.

There seems to be a tiny sound gap when changing presets or on stomp mode but barely noticeable especially on a live setup.

Reverb/delay trails only work on stomp mode when you toggle the effect within the patch. It will not work when you change patches.

Can't find a nam profile that I like (I only tried some full rig amp+cab ones from Tone3000, and I don't have much experience with profiling). I tried the built in ones and I think they're actually good. They're amp+cab captures so if you're just starting it's a quicker way to choose an amp and cab pair. I like and use the FOXY30 JMI AC30 profile cos it's similar to what I use when recording/mixing my songs.

Note that I am using this on a mini amp haha (for practice only) so don't trust me! I just like it because it sounds good on a toy speaker. I've been using a Valeton GP-100 since 2023 for recording all my guitars. It's always on my desk and I don't want to remove it as much as possible. That's why I've been anticipating this device because I want something portable and possibly for outside use if needed.

Here's a link to the user manual if you want to look at the list of effects and also has the midi cc info. If it's not working, there's also a Valeton GP-5 group on facebook, someone also uploaded it there.

If you're looking for instructions on how to configure the chocolate or chocolate plus, just look for videos on GP-100 and chocolate because it's the same process.
