I was wondering if there's a standalone YouTube app on Mac and it seems there's none. This is because YouTube on Google Chrome seems to be eating up a lot of resources (which is ironic). Anyway it looks like you can just use Safari as the browser specifically for YouTube, assuming you're not using Safari is not your default browser. It does seem it runs better on Safari since it's more optimized for Mac.
To make things better, on Safari Settings, set "Safari opens with" to "All windows from last session". This way it will always open where you left off. Pretty neat!
If you're wondering why I'm using Google Chrome as my default browser, it's mainly because I think it has better tools for web development, at least for now.
Update: on Chrome, you can also install YouTube as a Chrome App which kinda works like a standalone app. You can also try it. There's a small install button on the right side of the address bar.
